Tanel Tein (born January 10, 1978 in Tartu, Estonia) is an Estonian retired professional basketball player.

Tein's professional career started at the Estonian team KK Tartu (today known as Tartu Ülikool/Rock) in the 1993–94 season, when he joined at age of 15. He has been a member of the Estonia national basketball team since 1998 and was a member of the Estonian team in EuroBasket 2001. Tein is a four-time Estonian champion with Tartu team and Polish Cup runner-up with Śląsk Wrocław in 2004. In 2004–2005 season he signed with the Bundesliga club ALBA Berlin. Tein came back to Tartu in 2006 and played for Tartu Ülikool/Rock team. With the team he won Estonian Championships in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

In May 2010, Tein announced that he will not continue playing basketball as a professional.[1]
